Hundley Cellars offers a warm, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere that is based on our belief in genuine, old-fashioned hospitality. We truly hope that, while you may enter our door as a guest, you will leave as a friend. Whether a beginning wine enthusiast or seasoned oenophile, fast-food junkie or food critic, we have something to please everyone, along with the trained and knowledgeable staff to ensure that your experience with us exceeds every expectation, always without pretentiousness. Because…
Drinking wine, enjoying a bite to eat, and relaxing in the company of friends and loved ones is meant to be fun. FUN. Remember that three letter word that’s so easy to forget in our fast-paced lives? If you’re joining us at the winery, chances are pretty good that you’re looking to blow off a little steam, have a laugh, listen to music, tell a story, or simply hold hands with the person who always makes your world a better place. So leave your worries at the door, let your hair down, take off your shoes…whatever it takes, we’re here to help! (Please, however, leave your pants and shirts on! This is a winery, not a house party…well, most of the time.)
Uncork. Unwind.
People go into business, any business, for a number of reasons: personal freedom, financial rewards, selling the latest labor-saving product of one’s own invention on late night infomercials, and so forth. For us, the idea of opening the winery began with a conversation between brother and sister many years ago. Tracy and Greg were each others’ closest friends as kids and, despite the many miles that had come to separate them through various career and personal choices, remained so once they’d (mostly) grown up and each had families of their own. Something, however, seemed to be missing. They wanted the whole family to be together again, not only so they could be with one another, but so that the nieces and nephews could play together in the sun and far-off grandchildren tell stories of shared memories to children of their own on a distant winter’s night.
Along with their dad, Larry (our CEO) and mom, Gerri (the CEO’s boss), Tracy and Greg loved spending time at local wineries, taking every opportunity to get the whole gang together to enjoy each other’s company and shared love of the “winery experience”. Over time, wine, and some warm summer nights at Geneva-on-the-Lake, an idea began to form. They would plant a vineyard and one day open a winery. The family would be together and have a legacy to pass on to future generations.
They found 35 beautiful acres of land in Harpersfield Township that had long ago been an orchard, planted vines in the ground on what must have been the hottest Memorial Day weekend in a century, overcame any number of unexpected obstacles, learned a lot, prayed even more, remodeled an abandoned ranch house into a winery, and opened their doors in 2014.
Update - The dear Lord took Greg and Dad home in a rough 8 month span, but with the help of our amazing Hundley family of beloved staff, customers and friends Mom Gerri and Tracy continue the legacy written by Greg above with gratitude...
